Your Ethical Lens

What is your ethical lens?  What surprised you about that finding?

Discuss an ethical situation in sports (like steroids or gambling or violence -- your choice) from the point of view of your lens.  Be sure to identify your lens.

  1. My ethical lens is the rights and responsibilities. People of my ethical lens are suppose to be against steroids in sports simply because there is a rule, and its considered to be the wrong thing to do.

  2. My ethicals lens is the reputation lens. I believe that steroids in a sports is very wrong. Steroids are illegal, so therefore you should not be able to participate in any sports games. This lens is all about reputation and good behavior, which means steroids is not acceptable.

  3. My ethical lens is the results lens. For example, Pete Rose gambled on his team which is essentially illegal. He is trying to get into the hall of fame. If the MLB Commissioner was using the results lens, he would talk it out with Pete and they would come to a reasonable conclusion, most likely a win-win situation for both Pete and the MLB.

  4. My ethical lens was relationship and reputation. I think that steroids should not be allowed in sports, I feel like it gives an unfair advantage that the other team/players. I also strongly believe that if it is illegal it should not be an option to use. If you are not suppose to be taking a substance you should not take it. If you do take the substance you are putting your life on the line in a couple of ways, you are risking your own health and you are also risking the life of your family, if you get caught you won't be able to play and you won't be able to bring home any money to support your family.

  5. My ethical lens is the results lens and I'm not surprised that I got it. I think everyone should be accountable for themselves. So in a dilemma where a player took an illegal drug and didn't know, he should be completely responsible for his actions and should be ready for the punishment.

  6. My ethics lens was the reputation lens. I believe that steroids should not be allowed in any sport. I think this because it gives an unfair advantage over the other players who are not taking any substance to help and enhance their performance. Steroids are illegal and banned, therefore associating with them is not the right thing to do or ethical. If you are to take part in this than you are putting your life and future success in a sport in jeopardy. Getting caught doing such an act will cause major consequences and punishments which is why it is better to just avoid steroids at all cost.

  7. My ethics lens was the reputation lens, which is very accurate because I like putting others before myself. I think when athletes use steroids, they should get punished for it. Playing a sport is the natural talent you have, not the help from medicine or drugs. When using these drugs, you are getting an unfair advantage over the other athletes that you wouldn't have it you were not using steroids. Seeing reports of athletes all over using these steroids, yes I think they should get punished for what they have done. No one should be able to get away with this, because to me it is considered cheating.
